Starlight Childrens Project
Client: Days Inn By Wyndham
Role: Lead Designer / Creative Strategy
The ask was to launch a design a gown contest where anyone could print a template out to draw and color it.
All submissions would get voted on, and the winner announced. The Starlight Foundation didn't want children struggling with there health to wear boring hospital gowns; instead, they could be a superhero or princess and feel a bit cooler while going through a tough time. They wanted other children or adults to be able to help out and get creative to come designs.
We teamed up with the Starlight Children's Foundation to make every day brighter for hospitalized children and their families. We ran social ads and marketing to get people to submit gown designs. I had very few imagery of children that we could use, In the image to the left, I cropped the image of a child who's family and friends made her a blanket with all positive messages & quotes to help her feel supported and less alone.
The above images were photos I set up, directed, and shot along with a colleague. The images, used on the brand's social media. Below is an example of the social post as well as the digital execution on our websites.
Over 100 submissions were received based off of all of our media and promotions. The top 20 designs posted for people to vote on their favorites. I wanted the promotional material to be very much about designing a gown. I layered the imagery by drawing digitally what some gown designs could be and then added a cup of colored pencils to make it feel real.
