I don't think outside the box; I think of what I can do with the box
Leading teams groups or presenting work has always been a skill I have wanted to hone. I had an unbelievable task of creating inspiration meetings at Wyndham. I would plan a meeting once or twice a month to spend 45 to an hour to be creative, and problem solve. These meetings forced people to think creatively, and strategically not just execute.
Planning these meetings forced me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to engage and get my colleagues involved in many different ways. While this was just not my day to day job, it took many behind the scenes planning and prepping to keep the meetings fresh, new, and exciting.
Some meetings consisted of activities like partner-led blind drawing, collective group drawings, collaborative group story writing, to name a few. Leading these meetings was great for building many skills for me. I love designing and creating excellent typography & marketing, but this was a great chance to take my passion and inspire my teammates to stop and think, "what if" & "why not." Our workload sometimes could get crazy, making these meetings extremely hard to schedule; however, during those times, I challenged us all to take the 45- 60 minutes to come together and bend our minds in another way. We have all had that project that just got you stuck, thinking you have thought of it all, iterated and exhausted all options but stepping away from your desk to work and think about something could help you come back and see a project entirely differently.
At the end of the meetings, the team was often much more relaxed and less stressed from our session. Great things never come from your comfort zone!
